The Baylor Bronze Handbell Ensemble has students with varied ringing experience. Although this is not an auditioned ensemble, those interested in joining the group should have some experience ringing handheld instruments.
The Baylor Bronze is dedicated to furthering excellence in the art of handbell ringing. We ring five octaves of Schulmerich handbells with the recent addition of eight of the lower 6th & 7th octave of Malmark aluminum "basso profundo" bells.
Students interested in ringing with the Baylor Bronze must be willing to commit to all rehearsals scheduled in that each ringer is vital to the success of the whole. The ensemble enjoys a variety of styles of music, including classical, secular, and hymn-based arrangements. We perform at least twice a year, at Christmas and in the spring. Other performances are negotiated by the group.
The Baylor Bronze has set forth several goals:
- To do what we love, which is to ring.
- To educate those who are unfamiliar with our art form through excellence in performance.
- To explore the variety of musical styles possible for handheld instruments.
- To equip those of us who wish one day to lead his/her own group of ringers.
