Double Major in Music
Undergraduate
At Baylor University, students may enroll in only one degree program. Because the School of Music offers two professional degrees (BM & BME), it is not possible for a student enrolled in one of these degree programs to also enroll in another degree program offered by the university (such as the BA, BS, BBA, BSE, BSCS, etc., or the other music degree, BM or BME).
A student may complete two majors under the BM degree, but only if the student 1) auditions and is accepted into both majors and 2) completes the requirements for each major. The BM Double Major in Composition and Performance has been the most common double major completed in the School of Music.
A student may complete two majors under the BA degree, but only if the student completes the requirements for each major (i.e. BA Music and BA Religion)
Graduate
Students who wish to pursue a major in two areas (e.g., Musicology and Piano Performance) must first apply to and be accepted by one of the areas. After enrollment in the first program, when the admission requirements for the second area have been met and the faculty in that area has accepted the student into the second major, the student may petition the Graduate School to add the second major. An additional 15-17 credit hours will be required to complete the major in the second area. Except for the core course requirements of 9 credit hours and some elective hours, no courses can be credited toward degree requirements in both areas (e.g., a recital in the Piano Pedagogy and Performance area cannot be used to fulfill degree recital requirements in the Piano Performance area).
