High School Orchestra Conducting Camp
Grades: 9-12
Date: June 8-14, 2025
The date registration will be available is February 19, 2025.
Purpose of the Camp
The Baylor University School of Music's first High School Orchestral Conducting Camp offers one week of intense immersion in the world of orchestral conducting. Students will shadow Prof. Harth-Bedoya throughout all rehearsals, study the repertoire played by the camp orchestra, and receive an overview of the skills required to become a conductor in a private studio setting.
Daily Schedule
Students will observe orchestra rehearsals and meet as a conducting studio where the students will form a lab ensemble for the practice of the conducting mechanics. Recreational activities include swimming, athletic activities, and evening social events. Students are under careful supervision by camp counselors during all activities.
Housing and Meals
Students will be housed in regular Baylor dormitories. Roommates will be assigned unless specific roommate requests are made. Although we cannot guarantee that each camper will be roomed with the individual he/she requests, we do our best to honor all roommate requests. Dormitory rooms accommodate two students. We won't know which dormitory the camp will be using until May. While in the dormitories, all camp students will be under the careful supervision of the camp staff, and security will be a priority. All meals will be served in university dining halls and will begin with dinner on Sunday, June 8 and end with breakfast on Saturday, June 14.
Cost
The cost of the seven-day camp is $650.00 which includes tuition, dormitory, meals, and activities. Commuter students may elect not to stay in the dorm and pay $460.00 which includes tuition, lunch, and camp activities. Commuter students may purchase breakfast and dinner for the week for an additional $97.50.
Eligibility
The camp is open to all orchestra instruments and piano students entering grades 9-12. Students must read at least two clefs.
