Jen Stephenson, DMA
Assistant Clinical Professor Director of Baylor Opera Theater
Jen Stephenson is Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of Baylor Opera Theater. In addition, she teaches Acting for Singers and Advanced Opera Workshop. Previously, Stephenson served as Director of Vocal Studies at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas, where she founded the Tabor College Opera program in 2015.
In addition to her work at Baylor, Stephenson is co-founder and Artistic Director of Music On Site, Inc. (www.musiconsite.org), a regional opera company that works to close classical music’s opportunity gap across socioeconomic divisions by producing free musical outreach events to underserved communities, and by creating performance and education opportunities for young artists so that they may remain competitive in today’s musical marketplace.
Stephenson has worked with Chicago Summer Opera, Lawrence Opera Theatre, Music on Site, Inc., Harrower Summer Opera, Druid City Opera Workshop, New Century Opera, Utah Lyric Opera, Opera du Périgord, The University of Alabama Opera Theatre and Tabor College Opera, and has been honored nationally by the National Opera Association in both 2015 and 2017, as the recipient of the JoElyn Wakefield-Wright Stage Directing Fellowship and the winner of the NOA’s biennial Dissertation Competition.
Dr. Stephenson holds degrees from The University of Alabama, University of South Florida, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Westfield State University.
