Alumna Jessica Suandrianna in Guest Piano Recital
Jessica Suandrianna, a recent piano graduate of Baylor University, returns to campus on Wednesday, October 20, for a guest recital in Roxy Grove Hall at 7:30 p.m.
Her program will open with Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood), Op. 15, of German composer Robert Schumann. These thirteen characteristic movements were penned when Schumann was still a teenager. The seventh piece—placed squarely in the middle of the collection—is no doubt familiar to any music lover: the famous “Träumerei” (or “Dreaming”).
Next, Ms. Suandrianna will play Vier Klavierstücke, Op. 119, by another great German master, Johannes Brahms. Written in 1893, this collection encompasses the last four compositions for solo piano by Brahms. They were premiered in London, England, in January 1894.
Two of Polish composer Frédéric Chopin’s nocturnes will be heard: Nocturne No. 7 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 1 (from 1836), and then Nocturne No. 13 in C minor, Op. 48, No. 1 (from 1841).
Closing the program will be L’îsle joyeuse (The Joyful Island), a colorful piano piece from 1904 by French composer Claude Debussy.
This recital by Jessica Suandrianna is free of charge and open to the public. It is also available for livestreaming at baylor.edu/music/live.
