The Baylor University Mariachi Osos Dorados is dedicated to the study and performance of all genres of Mexican regional styles associated with mariachi, including, among others, the son, the huapango, the bolero, and the polka. It also examines the history and culture of Mexican regional music and the experience of Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in connection to the development of Mariachi ensembles in Mexico and the United States.
The ensemble performs at many cultural and athletics events on campus, as well as events in the Waco community. Every May, we perform our annual Cinco de Mayo concert at Jones Concert Hall.
All students enrolled in this course will be expected to either sing or play one of the following instruments—trumpet, violin, flute, acoustic guitar, guitarrón, or vihuela.
