Baylor Percussion Group in Concert

The Baylor Percussion Group will present its second concert of the 2021-2022 season on Thursday, March 17, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall, which is located within the Glennis McCrary Music Building. The BPG is a ten-member ensemble of student performers, directed by Todd Meehan, Professor of Percussion and Director of the Instrumental Studies Division, and Arlo Shultis, Part-Time Lecturer in Percussion.
Appearing as special guest on the program is composer Iván Treviño, who serves as Lecturer in Percussion at The University of Texas at Austin and co-director of the Eastman Percussion Festival, a biennial summer festival hosted by Eastman School of Music. He is also well-known for his work as a drummer with Break of Reality, an international touring cello rock quartet. Break of Reality has released five studio albums and has been featured on PBS, Huffington Post, and Yahoo Music, and the group is on regular rotation on National Public Radio.
Opening the program will be Momentum by renowned American composer, percussionist, and conductor William Kraft, who died just last month at the age of ninety-nine and a half. Mr. Kraft was a guest artist on Baylor University’s Lyceum Series in November-December 1987.
Coming next on the Baylor Percussion Group concert will be Wayne Siegel’s percussion duet, 42nd Street Rondo, and then Peter Martin’s Bend for percussion quartet.
Following intermission, the Baylor Percussion Group will return to the stage for three works by guest composer Iván Treviño, who will also perform as narrator in the first piece, Space Junk for percussion quartet.
Also to be heard by Iván Treviño are the percussion duet Seesaw and a percussion septet called Shared Space.
