The Gibbs Street Duo for Cello and Piano

Cellist Hilary Glen and pianist Sun Min Kim, known collectively as The Gibbs Street Duo, will present a guest recital at Baylor University on Monday, February 28, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Roxy Grove Hall.
Dr. Glen currently performs as assistant principal in the Atlanta Opera Orchestra, principal of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Georgia, and a section member of the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra and the Des Moines Metro Opera. She also serves on the adjunct faculty at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and teaches her own private studio.
Dr. Kim serves as Coordinator of Keyboard Studies and Assistant Professor of Music at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. As a laureate of various awards, he debuted at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and other prestigious venues across the United States and abroad.
Their Baylor recital will open with Distant Memories, a piece from 2015 by South Korean composer HyeKyung Lee.
The Gibbs Street Duo will also play Dirge and Deliverance by Dorothy Rudd Moore. This work was written in 1971 and dedicated to the composer’s husband, cellist Kermit Moore.
Next will come Rob Smith’s Let Freedom Ring, one of twelve new solo piano works commissioned by the Texas New Music Ensemble for their 2020-2021 season.
Closing the program will be Night by Ching-chu Hu, Professor of Music at Denison University. Dating from 1998, its two movements are “Slumber” and “Tossing and Turning.”
