Trumpeter Allen Vizzutti and Pianist Laura Vizzutti on Baylor's Lyceum Series

Baylor University’s Lyceum Series will present world-renowned trumpeter Allen Vizzutti and his equally acclaimed wife, pianist Laura Vizzutti, in a guest recital on Wednesday, January 26, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall, located in the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
Equally at home in a multitude of musical idioms, Allen Vizzutti has performed with a rainbow of artists and ensembles, including Chick Corea, “Doc” Severinsen, the NBC Tonight Show Band, the Airmen Of Note, Chuck Mangione, Woody Herman, the Budapest Radio Orchestra, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Kosei Wind Orchestra.
From his home in Seattle, Washington, Allen’s current career activities embody an impressive schedule of recitals, concerts, recording, and composing. His continued commitment to music education and the value of music in everyday life results in an extensive schedule of guest appearances at universities throughout North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia.
Laura Vizzutti studied at the Eastman School of Music with Brooks Smith and Eugene List, and then at the University of Southern California, where she coached with Jascha Heifetz and Brooks Smith. Laura’s recent activities have included solo and ensemble concerts throughout the U.S., in Japan, Australia, Austria, Croatia, Finland, and Germany. She can be heard performing on television and movie soundtracks such as “Hallmark Hall of Fame” and Zeus and Roxanne.
The Baylor recital of Allen and Laura Vizzutti will open with Italian baroque composer Tomaso Albinoni’s Trumpet Concerto in D major. Also to be heard are two pieces written by Allen Vizzutti, his Luciérnaga (“The Firefly”), and Nine Black Riders Fantasy. Mr. Vizzutti’s arrangement of a theme from Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez will be followed by the world premiere of his Sonata No. 4. Closing the program will be the cornet showpiece Carnival of Venice by Charles Delaware “Del” Staigers.
