Certificate in Contemporary Worship (Undergraduate)
Students who are majoring or minoring in any area in music can pursue certificates in areas of extended specialized study. Certificates are optional and offer students the opportunity to choose from a select group of courses focused on helping develop a particular skill or area of expertise.
Students must have a grade point average minimum of 2.00 ("C") on all courses in the certificate taken at Baylor. Certificates appear on a student's transcript, and a hard copy is given to the student signed by the Dean or President. Students interested in pursuing one of the Certificates should contact the School of Music Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Responsibility for curriculum and degree planning lies with the student, whose advisor, in conjunction with the Church Music Faculty, will provide guidance and advice.
Church Music offers one certificate program. The Certificate in Contemporary Worship equips students with specific training for a contemporary worship church context. Each course provides specific instruction for the various aspects of contemporary worship, from technology and instruments to band arranging and leading. In addition to instruction time, this certificate includes a minimum of two semesters in the worship ensemble, the 40 Collective, which provides students with hands-on experience in worship leading and contemporary music making. All these courses build on the biblical and theological foundation provided by the core class from the Church Music curriculum.

- MUS 3378 - Technology and Keyboards in the Church
- MUS 3379 - Band-Led Worship
- MUS 3170 - Guitar for Music Ministry*
- MUEN 1110 - 40 Collective (2 semesters)
*Students may petition to pass guitar proficiency instead of taking MUS 3170.
