Baylor School of Music Names Byunghee Yoo, DMA, Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano
The Baylor University School of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of Byunghee Yoo, DMA, as Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano.
Dr. Yoo joined the Baylor faculty in 2022 as Lecturer of Collaborative Piano (Instrumental), where she has played a central role in supporting student performances, and partnering with musicians across the School of Music for degree recitals and studio work. In this new role, she will teach and mentor students, perform with students and colleagues, and expand the collaborative piano program.
An accomplished collaborative pianist, Dr. Yoo is recognized for her sensitive musicianship and versatility across chamber, instrumental, and vocal repertoire. Her career has included regular collaborations with faculty and guest artists at Baylor University, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music—where she served as Visiting Assistant Professor from 2018 to 2021—and the Bowdoin International Music Festival, where she has been a collaborative pianist since 2010.
Her performances have taken place at major venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall, and Sheldon Hall. Her recording Airs in France: French Chamber Music for Piano and Winds (2020) highlights her depth of experience in chamber music and her commitment to refined ensemble artistry. She has also been involved in premieres of new works for both chamber and large ensemble settings, contributing to a broad and active artistic profile.
At the core of Dr. Yoo’s work is a deep commitment to collaboration as both an artistic and human practice. In her teaching, she emphasizes listening, partnership, and artistic empathy—guiding students to develop not only technical mastery, but also the flexibility, communication, and awareness required of today’s musicians. Her mentorship prioritizes score study, stylistic fluency, and professional preparation, equipping students to lead and adapt across a wide range of musical environments.
Reflecting on her time at Baylor, Dr. Yoo notes the distinctive culture of the School of Music as a place where generosity and excellence intersect. “The collaborative spirit among faculty and students,” she shares, “creates an environment where artistic growth and meaningful professional relationships can flourish.”
In her new appointment, she looks forward to strengthening the collaborative piano program, mentoring the next generation of artists, and expanding performance and partnership opportunities for Baylor students.
