Amy Fleming, PhD

Amy Fleming is a Senior Lecturer in Music Theory at Baylor University, where she teaches written theory and aural skills. She completed her undergraduate degree at Wheaton College, where she graduated magna cum laude with a double major in Music Composition and Music History. She continued her studies at the Pennsylvania State University, where she graduated with a Master of Arts in Music Theory/History and received the Creative Achievement Award from the College of Arts and Architecture. Next, she pursued doctoral studies in music theory at the Eastman School of Music, where she was a Sproull fellow and recipient of the Teaching Assistant Prize for Excellence in Teaching. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Penn State, the University of Rochester, and Eastman. Her research interests lie primarily in the music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and she has presented papers on George Crumb, Olivier Messiaen, and post-tonal pedagogy. In 2010, she won the International Alliance for Women in Music's Ellen Taaffe Zwilich Prize for her composition Plegaria a Dios.
