Edward Taylor, PhD

Edward Taylor holds Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in music theory and composition from Rutgers University where he was a student of Charles Wuorinen. Prior to joining the faculty of Baylor University in 2006, Taylor taught at William Paterson University, Rutgers, and Westminster Conservatory in Princeton, New Jersey. Taylor’s research interests focus on post-tonal and twelve-tone theory, and he has presented guest lectures at Columbia University, Bucknell University, Western Illinois University, Houghton College, and the University of Central Florida. An active composer, Taylor has received commissions and premieres from such artists as The N.Y.U. New Music Ensemble, Helix!, The New York New Music Ensemble, Harvey Sollberger, Fred Sherry, Kae Hosoda-Ayer, Ashlee Mack, John McMurtery, Todd Meehan, and Walter Morales. His works have been performed throughout the United States and Europe, including premieres at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City, The Juilliard School, and The American Academy in Rome. Taylor’s Ascension for double bass and piano appears on the recently released Leap of Faith by bassist Sandor Ostlund.
