Jazz Ensemble in Concert

The Baylor University Jazz Ensemble will present its fourth program of the 2021-2022 concert season on Tuesday, February 22, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall, which is located within the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
This talented group of nineteen student musicians performs under the leadership of Alex Parker, Senior Lecturer in Jazz Studies and Director of the Wayne Fisher Jazz Program at Baylor University.
The program will open with “Tip Toe” by legendary trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Thad Jones.
Next, the Jazz Ensemble will play the John MacLeod setting of Tom Harrell’s “Sail Away” and an arrangement by Fred Sturm of “Highland Aire” by Lyle Mays.
Also to be heard are Marcus Persiani’s arrangement of “Zambia” by Mario Bauzá and then “Last Season” by Maria Schneider.
Closing the program will be another brilliant arrangement by Fred Sturm, that of the popular “Libertango” by Argentinian composer Ástor Piazzolla.
