Building Bridges to the Future
For the past 10 years, Baylor’s Dunn Center for Christian Music Studies has given time and resources to the training of young people, specifically high school students with an interest in worship leadership. Worship Lab began in 2015 with a call from the Center’s advisory board to design and launch a meaningful summer training camp for students. In 2018, this work caught the eye of Lilly Endowment Inc., who just a few short years prior, had launched a research cohort focusing solely on this purpose. With an award of $1.2 million, Baylor joined the joined the Strengthening Congregational Ministries with Youth Initiative. This research partnership has helped Baylor expand the summer program to provide greater access for students with limited financial resources, employ both full-time and part-time staff, build relationships with local churches, host worship workshops across Texas and, most importantly, educate and empower young people to be vibrant and active leaders within their churches. As Phase 1 of this work concludes in early 2024, we reflect on the meaningful impact Worship Lab has had on countless lives over the past decade.
